Basic information
The authorized workplace, the Veterinary and Food Institute in Bratislava, SKTC-150 provides the performance of laboratory diagnostics on highly specialized workplaces, divided into two specialized units:- Department of Epizootics
- Department of Applied Ecology and Hygienic Disciplines
The activities of the Institute are aimed at sample testing within the scope of eradication programs on farm animal holdings, veterinary prevention and protection of national territory, national program for monitoring of foreign substance residues, food surveillance, coordinated targeted monitoring, monitoring of consumption basket, game and fish monitoring, import and export control, as well as for the purpose of private sector, whether for the implementation of Act Nr. 264/1999 Coll. on technical requirements for products and on conformity assessment, or feed registration in their introduction to the internal market.
Department of Epizootics
is
working complexly in the information system SLP®; the Department is
concerned with the identification of agents and sources of
infectious and non-infectious diseases of farm animals and companion
animals, including diseases transmissible to humans, so-called
antropozoonoses. The identification is done through the pathological
anatomy and histology, involving rabies diagnostics, general and
specific bacteriology, serology and immunology, virology,
parasitology, mycology, biochemistry and toxicology.
Department of Applied Ecology and Hygienic
Disciplines
is divided into accredited unit for
detection of foreign substances, unit of chemistry, unit of food
hygiene and unit of feed hygiene and nutrition of farm animals. The
Department is concerned with testing food and raw materials of
animal and plant origin, feed materials for farm animals, as well as
waters used in food industry and agriculture in respect to their
safety in compliance with valid Codexes and Decrees. The testing
methods include sensory, microbiological and physical-chemical
methods, including detection of foreign substances, whether
additives or contaminants, drugs, mycotoxins and suchlike.
